The Hill Legend
To this day the most famous abduction experience is that of Betty and Barney Hill. The story of that abduction in the mountains of New Hampshire has changed over the years, but one thing is clear. After Betty and Barney Hill, the modern abduction movement was born.
Missing time, missing memory, "remembering" through hypnosis treatment, little men, and above all a horrifying examination by the aliens - most abductions include at least some of these elements.
It is often not mentioned that the Hills doctor, Dr.Benjamin Simon, felt sure the Hills had not been abducted by aliens. He believed THEY believed they had been abducted by aliens . But while he started the hypnosis treatment for abduction experiences that is now all too common, he understood the limits of hypnosis. Hypnosis is a very controversial treatment for abduction experiencers, and only must be done by a trained doctor. Sadly, many "self trained" therapists treat abductees with results that are controversial. Badalien feels that the point of seeking therapy for an abduction experience should be focused on a cure. Hypnosis, with the problems of implanted memories and unskilled therapists, can simply lead to more trauma for an abductee. With the Hills, their treatment did not result in a calm and happy mind. Barney Hill also reported many health issues after the "abduction" which are often in UFO literature blamed on the abduction experience. This is the sort of dangerous supposition that has been all too common since the Hill story first came to the notice of the public.
The Hill story differs with time and depends on which sources you check.
One thing is sure, before the Hills most alien encounters were friendly. After the Hills, aliens were never viewed the same way. Did the aliens change? Or did the public perception change because of the publicity that followed? We see what we know, and after the Hills the public knew that aliens could be very bad indeed.
