Bananas are a marvelous fruit. Doctors tell us they are full of potassium and we should eat them often.
It is a lunch box favorite as it requires no wrapping to keep it fresh. Indeed you may drop a banana on the ground,
and simply peel away the outer protective layer and eat it without having to rinse it off. The banana we know and
enjoy today is a product of man, designed and modified so that it little resembles the wild fruit it started out as.
Still as wonderful as the banana is, one thing I never thought was that the banana could tell our deepest secrets
and foretell our future. Is the banana a fruit capable of imparting our very nature to a total stranger with the gift to
read the banana? Or is a man, a very clever and skilled man, able to use a simple fruit to teach us a lesson about
the need to be more skeptical in our lives?
This video on youtube shows a psychic, Mark Edward, reading a banana. I am the person having my banana read. I was picked simply by chance, in fact many other people in the room also had bananas. Or was I picked by chance? Mark and I had never met before this cruise, but he is a very friendly and social person, and we had a few interesting conversations and even toured some together in Mexico. I had come to really like Mark, and found him an intelligent and warm human being. In fact, I'd say he was a very good listener. Still, how well could he know me after only a few days? I was very skeptical that he could read my banana.
I have to say that immediately I was rather shocked at how accurate his reading was. After only a few days how he could know that I was a careful person, even stubborn in my need to think over anything new. It wasn't until I saw this video that I was even aware of the nodding of my head. In fact throughout the entire video I am nodding and giving what is called feed back to Mark. All Mark had to do to know if he was correct was look at me. You'll notice several times he does indeed even ask me if he's on the right track.
But the most interesting part isn't what Mark got right. It was what he got wrong. Anyone viewing the video would assume Mark was 100% on target. But he wasn't. At one point Mark mentions candles and even makes the leap to my owning a lava lamp. I smile and nod and agree, but on those points he was wrong. I am a romantic. But, my very careful nature keeps me from having candles in the house. A friend had a terrible fire in her house caused by candles. So the only reason I do have a few candles in the house is for emergency power loss. Still, he got that I was a romantic right, so what's the quibble about candles. The lava lamp though was different. I'd never owned one, but my daughter had. It's probably stuck somewhere in her room. So the question is, why did I nod and smile yes? I nodded and smiled as he was simply wrong in the details. I didn't think that was important. He was correct in his assessment of me. Plus, remember, I like Mark. I wanted him to do well. On some level, because I certainly didn't think of it before or even during the reading, I wanted him to be right.
I remember thinking, oh geez I don't even know if my daughters old lava lamp is still around. But I also remember thinking wow, Mark is on a roll, I don't want to be a wet blanket and mention I don't own a lava lamp. The point was I was so impressed with how well Mark knew me, via the banana, that I wasn't going to worry about a few specifics being off. This was fun, everyone was enjoying it, and certainly I was enjoying it. It was only later that I wondered if this happens with other psychics. You don't' want them to fail. If they seem like nice people, you want them to succeed. After all a few details don't matter, what's important is the over all general reading isn't it?
Certainly the psychic banana reading isn't the next big thing in mentallism. But Mark didn't need a banana to read me. He needed his engaging personality (so I liked him) his listening skills (everyone loves to talk about themselves), and his years of experience doing readings. Mark Edwards is a very gifted mentalist. His readings are I feel far more accurate than those that claim supernatural ability for their power. Mark Edwards is one of the best in the business, but he doesn't do it alone. He does it with the help of the person he is reading, even if they don't realize they are helping. That is part of his skill, and what makes him so good. Plus, he makes the reading a lot of fun. With Mark it's harmless and educational. That's because he's one of the good guys. A bad guy can and does use these same skills to lie to and harm people. Think of the scam artists that uses this ability to read a person to convince that same person that they are talking to their dead child from beyond the grave. Being impressed with a psychic with knowledge about you, should not lead to belief in them having supernatural abilities, such as talking to the dead. Remember, most of us are giving feed back without even knowing it. If you are going to pay someone to give you a reading (and my banana reading was free it should be mentioned), at least go for someone that understands it's just a game, and will give you a wonderful mentalism experience.
Mentalist goes BANANAS!
